NHL: Report: Penguins signing veteran F Brian Boyle
The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to sign veteran forward Brian Boyle, The Athletic reported Monday.
Boyle, 36, has been in training camp with the Penguins on a professional tryout.
Boyle has 231 points (130 goals, 101 assists) and 588 penalty minutes in 805 games with seven NHL teams.
He last played in 2019-20 with the Florida Panthers, tallying six goals and nine assists in 39 games.
Signing the former first-round pick (26th overall in 2003) adds depth and experience to a Penguins roster that opens the 2021-22 season on the road Tuesday against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
Pittsburgh won’t have forward Evgeni Malkin (knee surgery) until at least December. Captain Sidney Crosby practiced on Saturday for the first time since September wrist surgery.
