The Philadelphia Flyers placed Kevin Hayes on long-term injured reserve Wednesday and claimed fellow forward Zack MacEwen off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.

Hayes, who underwent abdominal surgery last month, is required to miss at least 10 games by virtue of Wednesday’s move.

The 29-year-old Hayes recorded 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 55 games last season. He has 301 points (127 goals, 174 assists) in 505 career games with the New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets and Flyers.

MacEwen, 25, had one goal and one assist in 34 games with the Canucks last season. The Prince Edward Island native has nine points (six goals, three assists) in 55 career games with Vancouver.
