The Columbus Blue Jackets put forward Emil Bemstrom on injured reserve Thursday, hours before their season opener against the Arizona Coyotes.

Bemstrom, 22, strained his left oblique in practice Tuesday. He’s expected to be out four to six weeks.

Entering his third season with the Blue Jackets, Bemstrom has played in 76 games. He has 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) to go with eight penalty minutes and six power-play goals.

The Blue Jackets selected the 6-foot Swede in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. In 2019-20, he led the team’s rookies in goals (10), points (20) and power-play goals (five) in 56 games.
