NFL: Giants’ Saquon Barkley, Daniel Jones carted off with injuries

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley left in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the host Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Daniel Jones departed in the second period due to injuries.

Barkley sustained a left ankle injury, while Jones departed with a concussion after a helmet-to-helmet hit. Receiver Kenny Golladay also missed the second half due to a knee injury.

Barkley rolled his ankle on a Cowboys defender’s foot and went down. Trainers looked at his injury on the Giants’ bench before he was carted to the locker room.

The fourth-year pro took two carries for 9 yards before exiting.

Jones was injured when he attempted to score on a running play. He was stopped at the 1-yard line after he collided with Dallas linebacker Jabril Cox.

Jones headed toward the sideline and paused and bent over at his waist near two officials. When he resumed walking, he stumbled and quickly was attended to and eventually was carted off with 2:58 remaining.

Mike Glennon replaced Jones at quarterback and the Giants scored a touchdown on the next play when Devontae Booker scored from the 1.

The 24-year-old Jones was 5-of-13 passing for 98 yards before exiting. Upon leaving, he has passed for 1,282 yards, four touchdowns and one interception this season.

Barkley, 24, had returned to full form after missing most of 2020 with a torn ACL he suffered in Week 2. He has 195 rushing yards on 54 carries with two touchdowns after leaving Sunday’s game.

The 27-year-old Golladay was targeted three times in the first half but didn’t have any receptions. He has 17 catches for 282 yards this season.
