Detroit Pistons rookie point guard Cade Cunningham could miss the team’s preseason opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night because of the lingering effects of a rolled ankle.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Cunningham tweaked his ankle last week and has not practiced since, coach Dwane Casey said Monday. Casey said there was no timetable for Cunningham’s return.

Cunningham averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists a game and shot 50% from 3-point range in his three Summer League games in Las Vegas. In 27 games last season at Oklahoma State, he averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

The Pistons open the season Oct. 20 at home against the Chicago Bulls.
