Shopify Rebellion pulled off a reverse sweep, downing Sentinels 3-2 on Friday in the lower-bracket first round at the League of Legends’ League Championship Series Summer playoffs.
Shopify move on to a Sept. 25 match against the lower-seeded loser of the upper-bracket semifinals, which will consist of LYON vs. Cloud9 on Saturday and then Team Liquid vs. FlyQuest on Sunday.
The LCS Summer Split is an eight-team event that began July 25 and will run through the finals in October. A seven-week round-robin regular season — in which all teams played each other once in a best-of-three match — set the field for the six-team playoffs.
The top two teams in the regular season — LYON and Team Liquid — advanced to the playoff semifinals, while the third- through sixth-place teams advanced to the quarters. The bottom two teams in the standings were eliminated.
The teams that claim the top three positions in the playoffs will advance to the $5 million LoL World Championship, scheduled for Oct. 15-Nov. 14. The fourth- and fifth-place teams will receive spots in the $223,000 Demacia Cup Global Invitational, to be held Oct. 3-17 in China.
On Friday, Sentinels opened with a 27-minute victory on red and a 30-minute win on blue. Shopify Rebellion rallied for a 30-minute triumph on red, then claimed the last two rounds on blue, in 32 minutes and 35 minutes.
South Korea’s Ju “Bvoy” Yeong-hoon paced Shopify Rebellion with a 15-10-14 kill-death-assist ratio. Another South Korean, Cho “Rahel” Min-seong, led Sentinels with an 18-9-24 K-D-A ratio.
