Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb on Thursday and miss about four weeks.

Head coach David Culley confirmed the surgery on Wednesday, which ends Tunsil’s plan to attempt to play through the torn UCL and put off surgery until the offseason.

Culley also said the Texans won’t have starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor back in the lineup this week. He continues to receive treatment for a hamstring injury, and Culley noted Taylor is making progress.

Tunsil was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots and left the game. He was replaced by Geron Christian.

Tunsil, 27, made the Pro Bowl the past two seasons. He has started all 77 games he has played in since being taken No. 13 overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 draft. He’s in his third season in Houston.

Taylor, 32, last played Week 2, when the Texans lost 31-21 to the Cleveland Browns. Rookie Davis Mills has led the offense since.

Before the injury, Taylor had completed 70.5 percent (31 of 44) of his pass attempts for 416 yards and three touchdowns.

The Texans (1-4) and Colts (1-4) will meet Sunday in Indianapolis.
