WTA: WTA roundup: Naomi Osaka advances to Bad Homburg finals

No. 6 seed Naomi Osaka of Japan needed just 70 minutes to defeat China’s Xinyu Wang 6-3, 6-3 Friday to advance to the finals of the Bad Homburg Open in Germany.

Osaka had eight aces and converted 23 of 29 first-serve points (79.3%). In the finals, Osaka will meet Czech No. 4 seed Karolina Muchova, who easily defeated Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 40 minutes.

Muchova had four aces, three coming in the first set, and won 28 of her 33 first-serve points (84.8%). She benefited from Ruse’s 10 double faults.

Lexus Eastbourne Open

A pair of retirements decided the finals matchup in England: No. 2 seed Madison Keys versus Germany’s Tatjana Maria.

Keys won the first set of her semifinal match 6-1 over Croatian Petra Marcinko, who retired after 29 minutes due to an injury.

Similarly, Maria will advance after No. 3 seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia withdrew due to illness 51 minutes into their semifinal match with the score at 6-1, 1-2 in Maria’s favor.
