WTA: WTA roundup: Elena Rybakina defeats Iga Swiatek to reach Stuttgart final

Fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina outdueled top-seeded Iga Swiatek 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 Saturday to reach the Porsche Grand Prix final at Stuttgart, Germany.

Rybakina of Kazakhstan improved to 4-2 against Swiatek and also ended the Poland native’s attempt to win this event for the third straight year. Rybakina had a 10-0 edge in aces.

Swiatek was hurt by 42 unforced errors and seven double faults. She converted just 2 of 13 break points.

Rybakina will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the title match. Kostyuk was a 7-6 (2), 6-2 winner over Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.

Sixth-seeded Sloane Stephens recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over second-seeded Caroline Garcia of France to reach the title match.

Stephens won 69.6 percent of her first-serve points compared to 57.9 percent from Martinez. Stephens converted 4 of 10 break points.

Stephens will face Poland’s Magda Linette in the final. Linette racked up seven aces while notching a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory over No. 3 seed Anhelina Kalinina.
