China’s Zhu Lin and Qinwen Zheng have both reached the semifinals of the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, China.

Lin won the Rose Group thanks to Veronika Kudermetova’s 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win Friday over Russian compatriot Liudmila Samsonova. Kudermetova won 19 of the last 23 points after falling behind 5-2, 40-15 in the final set.

Zheng outlasted Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in just over 2 hours to win the Orchid Group. Zheng fired 11 aces and took advantage of 40 unforced errors from Ostapenko.

The Chinese players will meet in one semifinal, with Saturday’s other match other pitting Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia and Russia’s Daria Kasatkina.

Haddad Maia defeated France’s Caroline Garcia 6-1, 7-6 (4) on Friday to win the Camellia Group. Kasatkina booked her spot in the final four Thursday by winning the Azalea Group.
