WTA: Simona Halep sweeps way into semifinals at Dubai

Romania’s Simona Halep ousted Ons Jabeur in straight sets Thursday to reach the semfinals at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates.

Halep defeated the eighth-seeded Tunisian 6-4, 6-3 in an hour, 20 minutes. Halep, a former World No. 1, overcame four double faults and three service breaks to outlast Jabeur in the quarterfinals and improve to 11-1 in 2022.

Halep will face Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, a 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (9) winner over Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

The other semifinal will pit Czech Marketa Vondrousova against Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who ousted Jil Teichmann of Switzerland, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Vondrousova beat Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine 7-5, 6-4.
