Notre Dame star guard Olivia Miles exited with a right knee injury during the No. 10 Irish’s 68-65 road victory over Louisville on Sunday.

Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey said afterward that Miles will be further evaluated to learn the extent of the injury.

“We’re in the dark on that, not sure what’s going on with her knee,” Ivey said in the postgame press conference. “But it was encouraging that she walked off the court. We’ll find out (in) the next couple of days about her.”

Miles was injured with 2:35 left in the first half and fell to the floor in pain and grabbed her right knee. The sophomore guard eventually limped to the locker room and sat out the remainder of the contest.

Miles returned to the bench midway through the third quarter with the knee sporting an ice wrap.

Miles entered the contest with team-best averages of 14.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.1 steals. She is in the mix for Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and All-American honors.

Last season, Miles became the first freshman (male or female) to record a triple-double in an NCAA Tournament game when she had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in Notre Dame’s 89-78 victory Massachusetts in a first-round game.

Notre Dame (24-4, 15-3) clinched the ACC regular-season crown with the victory over the Cardinals.

“Everybody just basically just went after it, competed and knew that we’re playing for a little bit more with Olivia out,” Ivey said.

The Irish also lost starting guard Dara Mabrey to a torn ACL in January.

Notre Dame’s first ACC tournament game is scheduled for Friday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
