Chicago Sky general manager and head coach James Wade on Wednesday signed a contract extension that spans through the 2025 season.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the team.

“I’m very excited and pleased that the organization has entrusted me to lead this franchise and it’s very humbling to know that I get to coach this group of players and work in this great organization for an extended period of time,” Wade said. “I’m very honored and I feel very blessed.”

Wade, 47, has guided the Sky to postseason appearances in all four years on the sideline as well as the franchise’s lone WNBA championship in 2021. He owns a 74-50 coaching record with the Sky.

“We are thrilled and privileged to extend James’ contract with the Sky,” team owner Michael Alter said. “In a very short time, he has proven to be one of the best coaches and executives in the league. He has done an amazing job creating and leading the championship culture of the Sky, where players play hard and unselfishly for each other. We look forward to many more incredible championship seasons under his leadership.”

Wade was named the 2019 WNBA Coach of the Year and 2022 WNBA Executive of the Year.

The second-seeded Sky defeated the seventh-seeded New York Liberty in the first round of the 2022 playoffs. They will play the winner of the third-seeded Connecticut Sun and sixth-seeded Dallas Wings in the second round.
