Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray told reporters Thursday that she is trending in the right direction from a hand injury and hopes to play in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday against the Golden State Valkyries.
Gray hurt her left ring finger in Game 1 of the semifinals against the New York Liberty on Oct. 4. She briefly returned but logged only 11 minutes and missed the next two games of Atlanta’s 3-0 sweep.
The four-time All-Star said the Dream’s medical staff would make the final decision on her availability for Game 1.
“So it’s just taking it day by day, just me getting comfortable, being able to handle the physicality of practice and stuff, which has been feeling well,” Gray said.
Gray revealed earlier this week that she had a “minor procedure” on the hand and declared herself “good to go.”
She practiced in a limited capacity with the team Thursday in San Francisco, with reports noting she had black tape holding her left ring finger against her pinky.
“As long as I can shoot, I’m good,” Gray added. “Hopefully I get some good news where I am able to play Saturday.”
Gray, 31, played all 44 regular-season games and averaged a career-high 19.0 points per game, along with 3.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals. She added 17.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest over the first three playoff games.
