The Las Vegas Aces announced Wednesday that they have retained star forward A’ja Wilson, who was a restricted free agent.

According to Winsidr, Wilson agreed to a two-year deal worth $398,422 that will pay her $196,267 in 2022 and $202,155 in 2023.

Wilson, who is entering her fifth WNBA season, was league MVP for the Aces in 2020.

“A’ja is a generational talent both on and off the court, and I’m excited to have her back in the fold with the Aces,” first-year coach Becky Hammon said in a news release. “She has been the leader of this team, and an integral part of the Las Vegas community since the day she was drafted, and I know our fans are ecstatic to once again have her at the forefront of our pursuit of a WNBA Championship.”

Wilson, 25, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft out of South Carolina and has averaged 19.0 points and 8.1 rebounds in 113 games (112 starts). She is a three-time All-Star and also won a gold medal as part of the United States team in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

“Aces fans have embraced me and this team since the day I was drafted, and the city has really become a second home for me,” Wilson said in the news release. “I’m looking forward to working with Coach Hammon, and excited about the future of our franchise heading into 2022.”

Wilson averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game in her MVP season and followed with averages of 18.3 points and a career-best 9.3 rebounds in 2021.

Her highest scoring average is 20.7 in 2018 when she was named WNBA Rookie of the Year.
