Ernie Els, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy and Camilo Villegas will assist International team captain Mike Weir at the 2024 Presidents Cup.

Weir named his assistants on Monday for the competition scheduled for Sept. 24-29 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in his native Canada.

“I am excited to announce Ernie, Trevor, Geoff and Camilo as my captain’s assistants for the 2024 Presidents Cup,” Weir said in a news release. “The four of them each have their own special history with this event and today’s announcement is a mere formality, as we have been working closely together through the years to ensure the International Team continues its momentum from 2019 and 2022. The culture and close-knit nature tied to this team is foundational to everything we will do heading into Montreal, and I can’t wait to work alongside them to deliver a great week of golf for our players.”

The Presidents Cup is a biennial team competition, pitting the United States against an international roster made up of players from the rest of the world, minus Europe.

The U.S. continued its dominance of the event with a 17 1/2 to 12 1/2 win at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., in 2022. The Americans lead 12-1-1, with the International team marking its only victory in the series in 1998 and managing a tie in 2003.

Els competed in eight Presidents Cups, with the South African holding the record for most matches won (20) by an International team player. He was the captain in 2019 and an assistant in 2017.

Immelman, who captained the team in 2022, was previously an assistant under countryman Els in 2019 and was a participant in 2005 and 2007.

Ogilvy is a captain’s assistant for the fourth time (2017, 2019 and 2022). The Australia native also participated in the Presidents Cup three times in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Colombia’s Villegas debuted as a captain’s assistant in 2022 and participated in the 2009 competition.

Jim Furyk is the captain of the 2024 U.S. roster. He has not yet named his assistants.
