Patiphan “Patiphan” Chaiwong of Thailand announced his retirement from competitive Overwatch on Thursday.

Patiphan, 19, spent the past nine-plus months playing DPS for the Los Angeles Gladiators of the Overwatch League.

With Patiphan’s help, the Gladiators won both the Kickoff Clash and Midseason Madness tournaments this summer.

The team said last month that Patiphan was dealing with a wrist injury. In a farewell video posted to social media, he did not reveal the reasoning behind his decision.

“This decision took so long, but I think it’s the right decision,” Patiphan said in his native Thai.

His previous stops included Xavier Esports, Talon Esports, Eternal Academy and WGS Phoenix. He burst onto the Overwatch scene starring for Team Thailand at the 2018 Overwatch World Cup.

Patiphan’s retirement comes one day before the Gladiators resume their season against the Florida Mayhem at the first week of Countdown Cup qualifiers.
