The Washington Spirit announced the signing of Colombian midfielder Leicy Santos to a three-year contract on Tuesday.

Santos, 27, will join the NWSL club in the coming months upon completion of the 2023-24 Liga F season with Spain’s Atletico Madrid.

Santos has recorded 17 goals and 16 assists in more than 100 matches since joining Atletico Madrid in 2019. She previously played with Colombia’s Independiente Santa Fe from 2017-19.

“Bringing Leicy to the Spirit is an important step in taking this team forward,” Spirit coach Jonatan Giraldez said in a news release. “She is relentless in the attacking third and can create opportunities at will with her passing. We are thrilled to have her.”

Internationally, Santos has earned 43 caps with Colombia since 2014 and competed in the Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2023.
