Asisat Oshoala scored the first goal in franchise history as visiting Bay FC began its inaugural season by defeating Angel City FC 1-0 on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Oshoala, who recorded the goal in the 17th minute, was in the box to take the shot. Tess Boade assisted by delivering the pass to Oshoala, who unleashed the shot with defenders approaching.

Goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx of Bay FC made eight saves and the team withstood 12 corner kicks from Angel City in the intrastate matchup.

Angel City held a 19-8 overall edge in shots.

Seattle Reign 1, Washington Spirit 0

Bethany Balcer scored on a penalty kick in the match’s third minute and that’s all host Seattle needed for a season-opening victory over Washington.

Seattle goalkeeper Claudia Dickey made just one save for the shutout. Aubrey Kingsbury of the Spirit stopped five shots.

The penalty kick came after Seattle’s Jordyn Huitema was fouled by Gabrielle Carle in the penalty area.
