The Seattle Reign extended defender Sofia Huerta’s contract through the 2027 NWSL season on Thursday.

Huerta, 31, is in her fourth season with the Reign and is one of the league’s longest-serving players.

“I’m so excited to stay in Seattle and sign an extension here with the Reign,” Huerta said. “Since joining the team in 2020, I’ve felt the support from our fans and I’m looking forward to growing that connection while getting more involved in the community. For years we’ve been a winning team and competed for trophies and I can’t wait to continue that with this team!”

Huerta has tallied 12 assists and started 59 of 62 matches since joining Seattle via a trade with the Houston Dash in 2020. She has played all 270 minutes through three matches this season.

Including stints with the Dash (2018-19) and Chicago Red Stars (2015-18), Huerta ranks eighth in NWSL history in minutes (14,556), ninth in regular season appearances (172) and 11th in starts (161).
