Sam Staab scored late to help the visiting Chicago Red Stars eke out a 2-2 draw against the unbeaten Kansas City Current on Friday.

Staab tied the score for the Red Stars in the 90th minute with a header off a corner.

Chicago (5-6-2, 17 points) snapped a three-match losing streak but remains winless in four straight.

The Current (8-0-5, 29 points) had won three of their previous four.

Kansas City dominated the first half with 63 percent of the touches while attempting 28 shots, including 15 on target, but couldn’t beat goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.

In the second minute, Temwa Chawinga collected a pass on the left side of the box but her shot just missed the far post.

But the Red Stars got on the board first thanks to Mallory Swanson in the sixth minute. Sarah Griffith sent a pass into the box for Swanson, who took it to the left edge of the goal area before firing it into the far side for a 1-0 lead.

Naeher stopped Chawinga’s header off a corner in the 17th minute. Chawinga was denied again in the 33rd minute when Naeher came off her line for the stop as the forward drove toward the net.

The Current finally broke through in the 51st minute off a corner. Naeher came off her line to jump and get her hand on the ball, but it landed at the top of the goal area, where Bia Zaneratto spun around for a left-foot strike into the net to tie it 1-1.

Chawinga put the hosts ahead 2-1 seven minutes later when she fired a quick shot from the top of the box.

Kansas City midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo left the match in the 46th minute after she was injured in a collision with a Chicago player.
