The Houston Dash parted ways with first-year head coach Fran Alonso on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old Spaniard had been on an unexplained leave of absence since late June.

Ricky Clarke will continue to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the NWSL season.

The Dash are in last place with four matches remaining, having won only four of 22 contests (4-13-5) in 2024.

Houston originally announced on June 28 that Alonso was away from the team due to an “illness.”

Alonso was hired on Dec. 22, 2023, after managing Scotland’s Celtic (2020-23) and England’s Lewes (2018-19).

The Dash’s brief statement on Tuesday said a new general manager will hire the next head coach.

Houston fired GM Alex Singer in July.
