NHL: Stars D Miro Heiskanen diagnosed with mono, placed on IR

Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen was placed on injured reserve on Thursday after being diagnosed with mononucleosis.

The move to IR is retroactive to March 2. He is out indefinitely.

Heiskanen, 22, has paid early dividends on the eight-year, $67.6 million contract he signed with the Stars last July. He has recorded 29 points (four goals, 25 assists) and averaged 24:46 of ice time in 52 games this season.

Heiskanen has collected 124 points (32 goals, 92 assists) in 257 career games since being selected by the Stars with the third overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

He has notched 30 points (eight goals, 22 assists) in 40 playoff games, including 26 (six goals, 20 assists) in 27 games during the Stars’ run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.
