His availability has not been determined for Tuesday’s regular-season opener at two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay.
Crosby, 34, is entering his 17th NHL season and remains one of the league’s biggest stars. The three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Hart Trophy winner has 1,325 points (486 goals, 839 assists) in 1,039 games.
In 2020-21, Crosby played in 55 games and tallied 24 goals and 38 assists for Pittsburgh, which hasn’t made it past the second round of the playoffs since winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017.
