The San Jose Sharks placed goaltender James Reimer on injured reserve Monday due to a lower-body injury.

The Sharks’ primary goalie sat out for two games last week before returning Friday in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Reimer didn’t play Sunday with the Sharks turning to Kaapo Kahkonen in net in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks. San Jose recalled Aaron Dell from its AHL affiliate Sunday to be Kahkonen’s backup.

Injured reserve requires a player to miss a minimum of seven calendar days.

Reimer, 34, is 5-8-2 with a 3.00 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and one shutout in 15 games to begin his second full season with San Jose. He has a career record of 197-156-55 with a 2.81 GAA and a .913 save percentage across 12 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs (2010-16), Florida Panthers (2016-19), Carolina Hurricanes (2019-21) and Sharks (2016, 2021-23).

In a corresponding roster move, the Sharks recalled forward Jeffrey Viel from the AHL. The 25-year-old has yet to play in the NHL this season but has three goals and two assists across 45 NHL games over the past two seasons.
