Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman signed a three-year, $10.2 million contract on Tuesday.

The transaction comes three days before the NHL’s trade deadline.

Walman is the second defenseman to come to terms on a deal with the Red Wings in the last two weeks. Two-time Stanley Cup champion Olli Maatta signed a two-year, $6 million contract extension on Feb. 16.

Walman, 27, has recorded 10 points (five goals, five assists) and a plus-17 rating in 40 games this season. He could have become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the campaign.

The former Providence College star has totaled 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) in 116 career games with the St. Louis Blues and Red Wings. He was selected by the Blues in the third round of the 2014 NHL Draft.
