Owen Power scored in overtime as the visiting Buffalo Sabres came from behind to top the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 on Thursday night.

Power nabbed his second overtime winner of the season, receiving a pass from Jack Quinn and launching it past goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky blocker side.

Quinn recorded four points, including two goals, and a Gordie Howe hat trick for the Sabres after a second-period tussle with Troy Stecher. Mattias Samuelsson (a goal and an assist), Noah Ostlund and Zach Benson (two assists apiece) had multi-point games for Buffalo. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 26 saves in his third win of the season.

Kirill Marchenko produced a hat trick for Toronto, and Auston Matthews also scored. John Tavares had two assists but went to the dressing room early in the third period after a collision with Josh Norris.

The Sabres have won four of their last five against Toronto.

Buffalo trailed 4-2 after two periods, but about halfway through the third, Dennis Gilbert brought the Sabres within one off a low shot from the point. It was the fourth goal of the journeyman defenseman’s career and his first since 2023.

Samuelsson tied the game two minutes later off a give-and-go with Tage Thompson. Toronto was outshot 11-4 in the third.

In the early going, Matthews plucked Samuelsson’s clearing attempt out of the air and left the puck for Jack Roslovic, who played it back to the captain making a beeline toward the net. Matthews flipped the puck past a helpless Luukkonen to open the scoring at 2:24, extending his points streak to six games.

Quinn tied it up just over a minute later, Benson snatching the puck off Nick Blankenburg and slipping the puck to Quinn in the slot.

Marchenko put the home team back in the lead with a highlight-reel goal on the power play, pulling the puck through his legs and lifting it over Luukkonen in tight at 13:10 of the first period.

Quinn ripped in his second of the game early in the middle frame, dragging the puck around the stick of Jake McCabe to wrist it past Bobrovsky from the high slot. Sitting on a hat trick, Quinn proceeded to strike iron twice in the second period.

Marchenko flicked in his second of the game from the edge of the faceoff circle to put the Maple Leafs up 3-2 at 11:13 of the second period. Colton Sissons helped him to a hat trick five minutes later with a slick feed from behind the goal line, Marchenko firing it in off a one-timer from close range.
