New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs due to an upper-body injury.

“We’ll see how long he’s out,” Devils interim coach Travis Green said. “I’ve already said what I’m going to say about Jack, he’s not in tonight.”

Hughes has recorded 74 points (team-leading 27 goals, 47 assists) in 62 games this season for the Devils (37-36-5, 79 points), who are five points behind the Detroit Red Wings for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. New Jersey has four games remaining on its schedule.

Hughes, 22, has totaled 281 points (114 goals, 167 assists) in 306 career games since he was selected by the Devils with the top overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
