One game into the regular season, the Seattle Kraken moved on from one of their expansion draft selections and the Washington Capitals picked him up.

The Capitals claimed defenseman Dennis Cholowski off waivers from Seattle on Thursday before he could clear waivers and be assigned to the minor league.

Cholowski was Seattle’s expansion pick from the Detroit Red Wings in July. The former first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft played in 104 games over three seasons for Detroit, tallying 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) and averaging 18:14 of ice time.

His stay in Seattle was short-lived. The left-shot D-man was not in the lineup for the club’s inaugural game Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Capitals were thin on D to start the season, as veteran Michal Kempny did not make the opening-day roster while continuing to return from multiple leg surgeries.

Washington loaned forward Beck Malenstyn to its AHL affiliate in Hershey to make room for Cholowski.

The Kraken also placed forward Marcus Johansson on injured reserve Wednesday due to a lower-body injury.
