Anderson gave Montreal a 1-0 lead at 4:29 of the first period. Newhook found an uncovered Anderson in front, and the winger quickly put it past Lindgren blocker side.

Kyrou took the puck from high along the right wall and brought it to the top of the slot for a snap shot that beat Dobes under his right arm to tie it 1-1 at 7:56 of the first.

Hutson carried the puck to the high slot before snapping it past Lindgren to put the visitors ahead 2-1 at 11:15 of the opening period.

Tuch’s short-handed tally on a 2-on-1 at 6:16 of the second period put Washington ahead 3-2. He carried the puck down the left side, keeping his eyes on Aliaksei Protas the whole way before unleashing a no-look shot that went far glove side on Dobes.

Anderson tied it 3-3 when Newhook again found him alone in front for a tap-in at 12:58.

Justin Holl fired a shot from the right point that deflected off Montreal’s Jake Evans before beating Dobes by his left arm to put Washington ahead 4-3 at 12:29 of the third period.

Tuch scored low blocker from the slot to make it 5-3 at 17:05.

With Dobes pulled for the extra attacker, Suzuki cut it to 5-4 on the power play at 18:21, firing a shot from the left circle through traffic.
