Omar Khan was promoted to general manager by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

Khan, 45, has been with the Steelers since 2001. He has served as the team’s vice president of football and business administration for the past six seasons.

Khan signed a four-year contract and replaces the retiring Kevin Colbert, who had been the team’s GM since 2010. Colbert, 65, had been with the organization for 22 seasons.

“I am pleased to announce Omar Khan as our next General Manager,” team president Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Omar has been an integral part of our Football Operations Department during his 21 years with the team, and that experience will serve him well in his new position.”

Rooney said that Khan was one of six finalists for the position following a months-long search process that included two rounds of interviews.

“I am extremely excited for this opportunity to be the General Manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Khan sid. “I would like to thank Art Rooney II, Mike Tomlin, and Kevin Colbert for their support throughout this process. I am ready for this challenge and grateful to continue the success we have had on the field during my first 21 years. I look forward to completing our football operations staff and working tirelessly to build another championship football team for Steelers Nation and our community.”

Khan previously worked with the New Orleans Saints from 1997-2000.

The Steelers also hired Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl as their assistant general manager, per multiple reports.
