Denver interim head coach Jerry Rosburg was let go by the Broncos on Wednesday, ending any chance of him being part of the new coaching staff, ESPN reported.

The move comes amid the team’s search for a new head coach.

Rosburg led the Broncos to a 1-1 mark after the team fired Nathaniel Hackett on Dec. 26, following a 4-11 start to his first year and a 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day.

Rosburg was named interim coach after defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero reportedly turned it down.

Rosburg, 67, was hired by Hackett during the season to aid him in clock management strategy. Rosburg expressed interest in being considered for the head coaching job and reportedly presented Broncos executives with his vision for the team in an end-of-season meeting. He was not granted a formal interview, however.

The Broncos have interviewed eight candidates so far, including Evero, Sean Payton, Dan Quinn, DeMeco Ryans and David Shaw, among others. The team reportedly is mulling who to bring back for second interviews.
