Baltimore Ravens coach Jesse Minter said quarterback Lamar Jackson will undergo thumb surgery and be placed on injured reserve.
Jackson exited Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills with an injury to his right thumb after his team’s first offensive play when he hit the wrist of Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau on an incomplete pass. Jackson grabbed his hand and immediately went to the sideline to display that his thumb was out of place. He then was whisked to the locker room.
Jackson was returning from a three-game absence due to a left ankle injury.
Tyler “Snoop” Huntley replaced Jackson with 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. He started the previous three games and the Ravens went 1-2.
However, Huntley took a blow to his right foot while being pressured by Buffalo’s Ed Oliver with 4:24 left in the first quarter. He immediately had a right toe examined and later appeared to aggravate it when he was sacked and lost a fumble in the opening minute of the second quarter.
Huntley completed 2 of 4 passes for 0 yards.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano entered with 9:39 left in the first half to make his NFL debut.
