New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones did not practice Wednesday due to a sore neck.

“We’re day-to-day with him,” coach Brian Daboll told reporters before practice.

The Giants previously had been optimistic about Jones’ chances of playing at Buffalo this weekend. On Wednesday, that changed.

“He’s a little bit more sore,” Daboll said, declining to discuss any specifics of the neck issue. “Again, it’s a day-to-day deal with him right now.”

Jones exited Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins after being sacked by Andrew Van Ginkel with 12:11 left in the game. The hit took Jones by surprise from his blind side, and his neck cocked backward before he was driven to the turf.

Tyrod Taylor took over under center for the Giants (1-4) and would be the starter Sunday against the Bills (3-2) if Jones is unable to play.

Jones, 26, completed 14 of 20 passes for 119 yards and was sacked six times against Miami. He has completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 884 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions through five starts this season.

With Jones as the starter, the Giants are 22-35-1.

Star running back Saquon Barkley, who has missed the last three games because of an ankle injury, was limited at practice Wednesday. Daboll had said before practice that Barkley will “do a little bit more than he did last week.”

The two-time Pro Bowl selection injured his ankle during New York’s game-winning drive in a 31-28 road win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 17. He then sat out the Giants’ 30-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers four days later and again in a 24-3 setback to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday.

Barkley has 114 yards on 29 carries with one touchdown in his abbreviated season. He has added 41 receiving yards and a score on nine receptions.

In addition to Jones, also missing practice were linebackers Micah McFadden (ankle) and Azeez Ojulari (ankle), offensive linemen Andrew Thomas (hamstring), Matt Peart (shoulder) and John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) and tight end Darren Waller (groin).

The Giants signed offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste to the practice squad.
