Dallas Cowboys wide receiver James Washington was carted off the field during practice on Monday with what the team later announced was a broken right foot that would sideline him for six to 10 weeks.

The timeline would have Washington missing anywhere from one to five regular-season games.

The Cowboys stated that Washington would travel back to Dallas from the team’s training camp site in Oxnard, Calif., to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair his fractured fifth metatarsal.

Washington came up limping after jumping for a deep ball in the end zone against cornerback Trevon Diggs. Washington, favoring his right leg, eventually was carted off. The pass fell incomplete.

Washington, 26, signed a one-year deal worth $1.19 million with the Cowboys in March.

He has 114 catches for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns in 60 career games (25 starts) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the second round of the 2018 draft.

With Washington’s injury, the Cowboys will face summer uncertainty at what had been a deep wide receiving corps as recently as six months ago. The team traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, opening up the No. 1 spot to CeeDee Lamb.

Michael Gallup, currently on the team’s physically unable to perform (PUP) list, has already said he will miss the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he rehabilitates from a torn ACL sustained in Week 17 last season. He had surgery in February, and he is eyeing a return in September at the earliest.
