Arik Gilbert is headed to his third college football team.

The former five-star tight end is transferring to Nebraska, according to multiple media reports, after playing at LSU for one season and Georgia for two seasons.

Gilbert played in only three games for the national champion Bulldogs last season, catching two passes for 16 yards. He didn’t play at all in the 2021 season, sitting it out for personal reasons, according to Georgia coach Kirby Smart.

Gilbert had a breakout freshman season at LSU in 2020 with 35 catches for 368 yards and two touchdowns, before he transferred to Georgia.

While neither Gilbert nor Nebraska has confirmed his transfer, he is enrolled at Nebraska and could start classes Monday, when the spring semester begins, according to 247 Sports. Per the report, Gilbert visited Nebraska last weekend and is listed in the school’s student directory.

Gilbert is a 6-foot-5, 248-pounder from Marietta, Ga. He was rated the No. 5 overall recruit in the class of 2020 and the No. 1-ranked tight end, per 247 Sports. That remains the site’s top overall ranking ever for a tight end.

Nebraska has now landed two former Georgia players from the transfer portal. Edge defender MJ Sherman previously joined the Huskers.
