Quarterback Michael Penix Jr., wide receiver Rome Odunze and running back Wayne Taulapapa had big games for No. 18 Washington in the Huskies’ 40-22 win over visiting Stanford on Saturday night in Seattle.

Penix completed 22 of 37 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns. Odunze had eight catches for 161 yards with a touchdown, and Taulapapa had 13 carries for 120 yards, including a touchdown run.

The Huskies (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) totaled 478 yards of offense. They have scored at least 39 points in each of their first four games this season.

Washington sacked Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee eight times, the most for the Huskies in a game since the 2017 season. Washington equaled its win total from last season, when it went 4-8.

The game was delayed in the fourth quarter due to a drone flying over the stadium. After a few minutes of hovering, the device flew away.

That didn’t help the Cardinal, who were already behind 25 points at the time.

Stanford (1-2, 0-2) scored a late touchdown to make it a more respectable final score. McKee finished 17 for 26 for 286 yards, with three touchdown passes and an interception.

Casey Filkins rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries for Stanford, taking the place of the absent E.J. Smith due to an undisclosed health-related matter. Wide receiver Michael Wilson caught two touchdowns for Stanford, one for 23 yards in the second quarter and the other for 78 yards with 1:45 to play.

Washington scored the first 17 points of the game and held a 17-7 lead at halftime. Taulapapa ran 34 yards for a second-quarter touchdown.

Odunze was wide open for a pass from Penix that went 30 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter, giving the Huskies a 27-7 lead.

Stanford got as close as 15 points before Giles Jackson took a short pass from Penix and scooted upfield and into the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
