Three-time Major League Baseball manager and World Series winner Joe Girardi has turned down an offer to become the next head coach at UCF, MLB.com reported Thursday.

MLB.com and Rivals.com reported earlier in the day that Girardi had been offered the post. Girardi met with UCF officials on Wednesday, per the Rivals report.

UCF was targeting Girardi to replace Greg Lovelady, who was dismissed by the school late last month after seven seasons. UCF is looking to make big splash with its entrance into the Big 12 next baseball season. It’s unclear who the fallback candidate is for the program.

Girardi, 58, is available after getting fired by the Philadelphia Phillies just over a year ago following two-plus seasons on the bench.

Girardi posted a 132-141 record as manager of the Phillies. He has a 1,120-935 record during 14 seasons as manager of then-Florida Marlins (2006), New York Yankees (2008-17) and Phillies (2020-22). He managed the Yankees to a World Series title over the Phillies in 2009.
