Coming off a standout freshman year at UMass, guard RJ Luis announced Sunday he will transfer to St. John’s.

Luis is the seventh transfer to commit to St. John’s since Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino took over the program.

The 6-foot-7 Luis plays on the wing and averaged 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 27 games (10 starts) as a freshman in 2022-23. He shot 34.8 percent from the 3-point arc and added 35 assists and 31 steals.

Luis chose St. John’s after taking visits to Texas A&M and Louisville.

The Red Storm have already landed commitments from a trio that played for Pitino at Iona — Daniss Jenkins, Cruz Davis and Quinn Slazinski — as well as Glenn Taylor Jr. from Oregon State, Nahiem Alleyne from UConn and Sean Conway from VMI.
