Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May will sign a long-term extension to remain with the school after taking the Owls on an improbable run to the Final Four, CBS Sports and The Athletic reported Thursday.

May’s new deal is expected to be valued at more than $1 million per year, according to CBS.

The news comes two days before the ninth-seeded Owls face fifth-seeded San Diego State for the right to play in the national championship game.

During the regular season, FAU (35-3) earned a ranking in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time and went on to win its first Conference USA championship. The Owls beat No. 8 seed Memphis, No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 4 seed Tennessee and No. 3 seed Kansas State on their way to their first Final Four in just their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

CBS reported that May passed on the opportunity to interview at power-conference schools over the past two months.
