Reece Beekman scored 18 points and No. 3 Virginia outscored Michigan by 13 points in the second half to pull out a 70-68 victory in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Ann Arbor, Mich., on Tuesday night.

Kihei Clark had 16 points while Jayden Gardner supplied 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers (6-0). Kadin Shedrick also had 12 points and Ben Vander Plas added 10 for Virginia.

Hunter Dickinson’s 23 points and seven rebounds led the Wolverines (5-2). Jett Howard added 15 points.

Michigan shot 61.3 percent in the first half and sunk 7 of 13 3-point attempts to lead 45-34 at halftime.

Virginia held an early seven-point lead, but the Wolverines were up by eight midway through the first half after an 8-0 spurt capped by a Howard jumper.

Michigan maintained the lead the rest of the half. Dickinson gave his team a 33-26 advantage with a putback.

A Dickinson layup and a Kobe Bufkin steal and layup established the 11-point halftime advantage.

Virginia had a 7-0 run early in the second half to cut Michigan’s lead to 48-44. Shedrick had a three-point play during that span.

Beekman soon found Shedrick for a layup, bringing Virginia within two points.

Howard’s basket with 11 minutes left gave Michigan a 58-52 lead.

The Wolverines then went cold for nearly four minutes while the Cavaliers reeled off eight unanswered points to grab the lead. Clark and Vander Plas had four points apiece during that stretch.

Vander Plas drained a 3-pointer with 5:15 left to make it 65-60.

Then the Cavaliers went cold as Michigan regained the lead with a 6-0 spurt, including five points from Dickinson. Gardner ended Virginia’s drought with 40 seconds left on a jumper.

Beekman made a steal and hit one of two free throws to give Virginia a two-point edge. Clark made two free throws to double the advantage before Dickinson answered with a layup.

After Armaan Franklin missed two free throws, Howard had a desperation shot blocked at the buzzer.
