Freshman swingman MJ Rice is entering the transfer portal, becoming the fifth Kansas player to depart the program since the season ended.

A Kansas official confirmed Rice’s decision to media outlets.

Rice saw action in 23 games but averaged just 7.6 minutes per outing. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.0 rebound.

Before signing with the Jayhawks, Rice was considered one of the top high school players in California and was named a McDonald’s All-American.

The other Kansas players entering the portal are guards Joseph Yesufu and Bobby Pettiford and forwards Zach Clemence and Cameron Martin.
