Kobe Brown scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Missouri upset No. 12 Iowa State 78-61 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge Saturday in Columbia, Mo.

D’Moi Hodge scored 17, Nick Honor scored 12 and DeAndre Gholston added 10 for the Tigers (16-5).

Jaren Holmes scored 19 points and Gabe Kalscheur added 14 for the Cyclones (15-5).

Missouri made 14 of its first 24 shots from 3-point range and overcame a 38-25 rebounding deficit.

The Tigers made 12 of 14 free throw attempts while the Cyclones shot just 3 of 8 from the line. Missouri rotated 10 players into the game during the first 39 minutes and wore down Iowa State with its depth.

With Iowa State guard Caleb Grill sitting out with a back injury. Missouri forced 11 first-half turnovers by the Cyclones to forge a 42-32 lead.

The Tigers broke ahead 15-8 with Honor, Brown and Sean East II hitting 3-point jumpers to set the tone.

The Cyclones finally got their offense rolling when Kalscheur knocked down 3-point jumpers on consecutive possessions. That fueled a 9-0 run that put Iowa State up 17-15.

Missouri responded with a 13-5 surge for a 28-22 lead with Brown attacking the basket for seven points.

After Iowa State cut its deficit to 34-30 with Holmes feeding Osun Osunniyi for dunk, the Tigers closed the half with an 8-2 run with Honor and Hodge hitting 3-pointers.

Missouri opened the second half by hitting its first six shots — four of them from 3-point range — to push its lead to 58-39.

The Cyclones finally slowed the Tigers with an effective 1-3-1 zone. They cut the Missouri lead to 69-54 with a 6-0 run started by Holmes knocking down a jumper and driving for a layup.

But Hodge stabilized Missouri with a 3-point jumper and two throws pushed the lead back to 18 points and the Tigers were not threatened again.
