Guard Kevin McCullar Jr. is pulling his name out of the NBA draft and will return to Kansas for the 2023-24 season, he announced Wednesday.

“How about one more year, Jayhawk nation,” said McCullar in a video posted to social media. “To be able to play in front of the best fans in the country. To play for the best coach in the nation, and I truly believe we’re going to have the pieces to hang another banner in the Phog. Rock chalk! Let’s do it!”

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound McCullars has one remaining year of eligibility. He participated in the recent NBA combine before making his decision to return to Kansas.

“This is a big day for Kansas basketball,” Jayhawks coach Bill Self said in a school statement. “We’ve had a lot of good things happen through recruiting this offseason, but nothing that has transpired this offseason was bigger for KU basketball than having a seasoned veteran like Kevin McCullar return to our program.”

McCullar transferred from Texas Tech before the 2022-23 season.

In his first season at Kansas, McCullar started 33 of 34 games, averaged 10.7 points per game and was fourth in the Big 12 in rebounds per game at 7.0.

He had seven double-doubles, third in the Big 12.

In his career, McCullar has played in 112 games (82 starts). He has career averages of 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.
