Butler announced the addition Friday of guard Eric Hunter Jr. as a graduate transfer from Purdue.

Hunter played in 128 games (74 starts) over four seasons with the Boilermakers and made the Big Ten’s All-Defensive Team in 2021-22.

“Eric knows how to win,” Butler coach Thad Matta said in a news release. “He’s played in big games and that experience will benefit our team on the court and in the locker room. Eric takes pride in being a solid defender and a steady floor general. He can make plays for others and finish possessions by hitting shots.”

Hunter averaged 6.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 25.8 minutes in 37 games (19 starts) last season as Purdue advanced to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament.

He finished his Boilermakers career with 842 points, 283 rebounds, 261 assists and 95 steals.

The Indianapolis native joins his hometown Bulldogs for the 2022-23 campaign. He will be using the extra season of eligibility provided by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
