Georgia basketball landed a commitment Thursday from forward RJ Sunahara, who earned 2023 Division II National Player of the Year honors at Nova Southeastern.

The 6-foot-8 Sunahara averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season for Nova Southeastern, Division II’s scoring leader at 102.5 points per game.

The Sharks 36-0 (20-0 Sunshine State Conference) won the Division II national title. Despite fouling out, Sunahara contributed 28 points and nine rebounds in his team’s 10-point win over West Liberty in the championship game.

Sunahara, who has one season of eligibility remaining, announced his transfer decision on Twitter.

Georgia was 16-16 (6-12 Southeastern Conference) in coach Mike White’s first season in Athens.

The Bulldogs are bringing in four freshmen ranked with four stars and have commitments from four other transfers.

Georgia has not reached the NCAA Tournament since 2015.
