Former Chicago White Sox assistant general manager Jeremy Haber was named the first chief operating officer of the NBA 2K League on Tuesday.

Haber will take over the role in February.

As the NBA 2K League prepares for its seventh season, Haber will be focused on long-term growth opportunities while also helping to establish a relationship between the NBA and 2K. He will also manage daily league operations and league-wide business functions.

“I am thrilled for Jeremy to join our leadership team and help design the next phase of the NBA 2K League’s growth trajectory,” NBA 2K League chief executive officer Andrew Perlmutter said. “From identifying new competitive opportunities to crafting and implementing long-term strategy, he brings expertise in building sports businesses through innovation, analytics and technology that will benefit the league for many years to come.”

Haber was with the White Sox for 11 seasons, spending nine of those as the assistant general manager. He headed negotiations for over $250 million in player contracts and also collaborated with scouting departments throughout the organization.

“With talented players, engaged teams, and devoted fans, the NBA 2K League is at the forefront of Esports competition,” Haber said. “I am so excited to join Andrew and this passionate community and immediately begin our work on the NBA 2K League’s next chapter.”
