The Portland Timbers awarded Juan David Mosquera with a contract extension through the 2027 season on Tuesday.

The deal includes a club option for 2028 for the young defender from Colombia who became a fixture in Portland’s starting 11 last year.

Mosquera, who joined the Timbers in July 2022, started 27 of his 29 appearances in 2023 and put up two goals and six assists. He has also suited up for the Colombian national team.

“Juan is deserving of this new contract, and it speaks to his development and impact during his time since joining the Portland Timbers,” Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy said in a news release. “We are excited to continue supporting his growth, and believe he is a player with a very bright future.”
