The New England Revolution acquired defender Christian Makoun from Charlotte FC on Thursday.

Charlotte receives $400,000 in general allocation money in exchange ($143,327 in 2022 and $256,673 in 2023) plus additional performance-based incentives.

Based on a previous trade, Inter Miami CF will receive 15 percent of total gross future sales involving Makoun.

“We are pleased to acquire Christian Makoun. He is a talented young defender and will add depth to our backline as we enter a crucial time in the regular season,” Revs sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said.

Makoun, 22, has two goals in 43 career MLS matches (33 starts) with Inter Miami (2020-21) and Charlotte. He has started eight of his 13 games this season with Charlotte.

Makoun has dual citizenship with Venezuela and Belgium. He earned his first two caps with the Venezuelan national team during 2022 World Cup qualifying.
