The Colorado Rapids have signed defender Andreas Maxso from Denmark’s Brondby IF.

The deal announced Friday is for three seasons with a club option for 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Maxso, 28, will occupy a designated player spot pending a physical and receipt of his international paperwork.

“Andreas is an experienced and physically imposing center back who has led his side to a championship in a strong European league,” Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said. “His proven leadership and commanding presence will be tremendous addition to our team as we tackle multiple competitions next season.”

The Denmark native spent the past four seasons with Brondby in the Danish Superliga, where he captained the club to a league title in 2020-21. He recorded seven goals and two assists in 112 matches in all competitions, including six starts in the 2021-22 UEFA Europa League.

Before joining Brondby, Maxso also played professionally in Turkey, Switzerland and Germany. He began his career with Denmark’s FC Nordsjaelland in 2012.

Maxso earned caps with the Danish national team in 2020 and 2022.
